We're Ending Unsheltered Homelessness in Modesto

Dignity Village Modesto is a new interim supportive housing community developed through a public-private partnership between DignityMoves, Stanislaus County, and the City of Modesto. The site includes 42 dignified, private units for individuals experiencing homelessness who also face behavioral health challenges such as serious mental illness and substance use disorders.

Part of California’s Behavioral Health Bridge Housing (BHBH) Program, Dignity Village provides safe, stable housing paired with the services people need to get back on their feet. The $3.4 million project was funded through a grant awarded to Stanislaus County by the California Department of Health Care Services.

The layout balances privacy with opportunities for connection, creating a welcoming environment where people can focus on recovery and the next steps out of homelessness.

Services

Dignity Village Modesto provides more than just interim housing—it offers a coordinated system of care to support individuals facing serious mental illness and substance use disorders.

Services are provided by Stanislaus County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services and include:

  • Case management and housing navigation
  • Referrals to behavioral health, medical, and benefit programs
  • Onsite support staff and 24/7 security
  • Connection to permanent housing plans and follow-up care

By integrating behavioral health services with safe, stable housing, Dignity Village Modesto offers residents a foundation for lasting change and long-term stability.

Community

From day one, local leaders, businesses, volunteers, and neighbors came together to make this project possible.

Through the Adopt-a-Unit program, individuals, faith groups, and local organizations helped furnish and personalize the rooms—adding the thoughtful touches that make a space feel like home. Volunteers contributed their time and energy, assembling furniture, preparing welcome kits, and supporting move-in efforts.

This collaboration reflects the spirit of Modesto: people coming together to ensure that everyone has a safe, dignified place to stay.

Ending unsheltered homelessness can be done.

A fast, cost-effective way to build housing at SCALE that is dignified and private so that people are willing to come, where they can then get the intensive supportive services they need.
