HOPE Community
Located on The Salvation Army campus in San Jose, the HOPE Community Overnight & Transitional Housing Program will include 74 beds and is designed to provide safe, dignified interim housing for individuals working toward sobriety. Each cabin will offer a secure place to rest and store belongings, while shared facilities will foster connection and community.
The site will feature a community room for resident gatherings and programming, along with administrative buildings for case management and supportive services operated by The Salvation Army Silicon Valley. Together, these spaces will create a stable environment where residents can focus on recovery and rebuilding their lives.
Services
With more than a century of service in San Jose, The Salvation Army brings deep local roots and proven expertise in addressing homelessness and substance use recovery. At this new community, they will provide on-site case management, behavioral health services, and a supportive, sober living environment as part of a broader transformation of their longstanding Fourth Street campus. This expanded partnership marks a new chapter: for the first time, The Salvation Army will extend services to women with children—helping meet the growing needs of unhoused families in the South Bay.
Public-private Partnership
The Salvation Army campus project in San Jose is made possible through a public-private partnership between DignityMoves, The Salvation Army, the County of Santa Clara, and the City of San Jose. This collaboration unites public leadership and private innovation to create urgently needed interim housing and services for people working toward sobriety.
With additional support from Supervisor Cindy Chavez, Mayor Matt Mahan, and generous philanthropic partners such as John Sobrato, the project demonstrates how cross-sector teamwork can accelerate solutions to homelessness in Santa Clara County.
