Support DignityMoves this Giving Tuesday

The holiday season brings reflection on the work we’re doing to provide interim housing for our unsheltered neighbors

Dear friends,

This Thanksgiving I had the pleasure of sharing a holiday meal with our residents at 33 Gough Street. Together with my co-founder Joanne Price, a handful of volunteers including my daughter, and the staff from our partner Urban Alchemy we served six turkeys, a dozen pies, and countless trays of scalloped potatoes.

One woman, adorned with pink hair and sparkles on her eyelashes, went out of her way to express her gratitude: “I am just so grateful to be here!”

I always find it heartwarming to spend time in our DignityMoves communities. The residents have suffered so much by the time they reach our doors, but through sheer grit and determination they’re alive, and now sleeping soundly each night behind a locked door– with a warm heater, a comfortable mattress, and surrounded by their support network of staff and peers. A few months ago I was hosting a tour on the site when an older gentleman overheard that I was with DignityMoves. He approached me wanting to tell me something.  Stumbling for what to say, his voice quivering, he finally got out the words: “You saved my life!”  He threw his arms around my neck, and when he pulled away I saw tears streaming down his cheeks. I thought to myself, “Yes, we did.”

At DignityMoves, we believe in a future where no one needs to resort to suffering on the streets. Every private room we create isn’t just a shelter—it’s a chance—a chance to sleep soundly, take a deep breath, and begin planning for tomorrow. It’s the first step toward long-term stability and permanent housing.

This season, as we celebrate the warmth and connection of home, I invite you to extend that same gift to those who need it most. Your support has the power to transform lives—to give people dignity, hope, and the opportunity for a fresh start.

Join us this Giving Tuesday to create more spaces where hope begins. Together, we can move closer to a world where everyone has the safety and opportunity to rebuild their lives toward stability.

With gratitude,
